Privacy Policy

How Bayni collects, uses and protects your information

Welcome to Bayni ("we," "our," or "us"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect your information when you use the Bayni mobile application. By using the app, you agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy.

1. Information We Collect

We collect the following types of information:

a) Information You Provide

  • Account information: name, email address, and password when you register.
  • Profile information: display name and optional profile photo.
  • Listings: item photos, descriptions, prices, and category details you post.
  • Messages: text communications you send to other users through the in-app chat.

b) Information Collected Automatically

  • Location: your approximate location (barangay and city level only) to show you nearby listings. Your exact GPS coordinates are never shared with other users.
  • Device information: device type, operating system, and app version for diagnostic purposes.
  • Usage data: features you use, listings you view, and how you interact with the app.

c) Website Visit Logs (bayni.app)

When you visit our website (bayni.app), we automatically collect the following for analytics and security purposes:

  • Masked IP address (last segment removed, e.g. 210.1.117.x) — used only for security monitoring.
  • Approximate location: country, city, and region derived from your IP address.
  • Page path visited (e.g. /, /support).
  • Browser and device information (User-Agent string).
  • Referrer URL — the page that linked you to our website.
  • Visit timestamp.
  • This data is collected without cookies and is not linked to your account or personal identity.

c) Third-Party Sign-In

If you sign in with Apple, we receive only your name and email address as provided by Apple. We do not receive your Apple ID password. Apple may provide a private relay email address at your discretion.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Create and manage your account.
  • Display nearby listings based on your location.
  • Facilitate communication between buyers and sellers.
  • Send push notifications about messages and listing activity (you may opt out in Settings).
  • Improve app performance, fix bugs, and develop new features.
  • Prevent fraud, abuse, and violations of our Terms of Service.
  • Comply with applicable laws and regulations.

3. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information. We may share your information in the following limited circumstances:

  • With other users: your display name, profile photo, and listings are visible to other users based on your profile visibility settings.
  • Service providers: we use Supabase (database and authentication) and Expo (app infrastructure). These providers process data solely to provide services to us.
  • Legal requirements: we may disclose your information when required by law, court order, or to protect the rights and safety of users.

4. Location Data

We collect your device location solely to show listings near you. Your precise GPS coordinates are used only on your device to calculate distances and are never stored on our servers or shared with other users. We display only your barangay and city name to other users.

5. Data Retention

We retain your account information and listings for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your profile and listings will be marked inactive and permanently removed within 30 days. Chat messages may be retained for up to 90 days after account deletion for fraud prevention purposes.

6. Your Rights and Choices

You have the following rights regarding your personal information:

  • Access: you may view your profile information at any time in the app.
  • Correction: you may update your profile information through the Edit Profile screen.
  • Deletion: you may delete your account in Settings › Danger Zone. This permanently removes your data.
  • Notifications: you may manage push notification preferences in Settings › Notifications.
  • Profile visibility: you may set your profile to Public or Private in Settings › Privacy.

7. Children's Privacy

Bayni is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can delete it.

8. Security

We use industry-standard security measures including encrypted connections (TLS), secure authentication, and row-level security on our database to protect your information. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. Third-Party Services

Our app uses the following third-party services, each governed by their own privacy policies:

  • Supabase — database, authentication, and file storage (supabase.com/privacy)
  • Expo / Expo Push Notifications — app platform and push delivery (expo.dev/privacy)
  • Apple Sign In — authentication (apple.com/privacy)

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by displaying a notice in the app or sending a notification. The "Last Updated" date at the top of this page indicates when the policy was last revised. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
